Study highlights support for the ANSDF

KABUL (SW): A latest study has revealed an overwhelming 74 percent of the population backs the Afghan National Security and Defense Forces (ANSDF) while up to 60 percent of the people see the Taliban as terrorists.

The study has been conducted by the Hasht-e-Subh (8 a.m.) newspaper in collaboration with the Khurshid University. It takes into account the government’s performance, security, judiciary and the Taliban. The study noted that some 42 percent of the responders viewed members of the parliament prioritizing their personal gains over the greater national interests. Among other notable points emerging from the study is that up to 22 percent of the people were happy with the government’s efforts for women empowerment, but 29 percent were not happy in this regard.

In terms of prioritizing government matters, 40 percent of the responders suggested the government should focus more on eradicating corruption while 22 percent argued ensuring security should remain the top priority.

Sharing findings of the study, Abdul Raheem Ahmad, director of the Khurshid University, said 3717 people took part in this study. He added 62 percent participants of the study were male while 38 percent were female.

Fareedon Azad, editor of the Hasht-e-Subh daily, said on the occasion majority of the participants expressed negative views about the Taliban. He added 44 percent respondents suggested the government not to engage in talks with the Taliban, 39 percent were in favor of talks while 16 percent did not share their views on it.

The joint study of the Hasht-e-Subh daily and the Khurshid University also revealed that 47 percent of the respondents believed the country is heading in the right direction while 28 percent did not agree with this notion.
