Study exposes corruption, shortcomings at MoI

KABUL (SW) – The Independent Joint Anti-Corruption Monitoring and Evaluation Committee on Tuesday released findings of its study into the administrative corruption at the Ministry of Interior.

Bari Salam, head of the MEC, told a presser in this connection that the objectives behind this study is to expose corruption in logistics, human resources and administration at the MoI. He said the study exposed there remains shortcomings at the in the procurement process as well, and the bidding process of contracts is influenced from outside.

He singled out the complicated logistics at the MoI as a major concern paving way for corruption. He said vehicles of the MoI is misused by powerful figures. “For instance, the former minister said up to 70 vehicles are in the illegal possession of unauthorized people, but the logistics departments gave us the list of only 36 people”, he said.

Highlighting problems in the human resources, he said appointments are often influenced from outside.
