KABUL (SW): A strong earthquake measured at 7.7 magnitudes with the epicenter in north eastern Badakhshan province, struck parts of Afghanistan and the regions.
The epicenter of the earthquake was at Karano Marjan district in Badakhshan province that jolted a number of other provinces in the country and many cities in northern Pakistan and India as well. Heavy casualties are feared in northern Afghanistan.
Initial reports suggest that 10 female school students in Bibi Hajera School in Taleqan the capital city of Takhar province were killed due to the stampede to get themselves out of the class. Their dead bodies have been shifted to the main hospital in the province.
It has also damaged a gateway built in southern Ghazni province in connection with the Capital of Islamic Civilization festivities.
