Stability and Partnership gearing-up for protest drive

25/11/2019

KABUL (SW) – Sources told Salam Watandar the Stability and Partnership electoral team is gearing-up for protest drive against the alleged vote fraud.

The sources told SW that this decision has been made after the Independent Election Commission failed to address the ‘legitimate demands’ by this electoral team led by Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah.

Fazal Ahmad Manawi, a senior member of this team, did not reject or approve this. He added efforts are underway to build collective consensus for a future strategy. He added a meeting between Abdullah and Gulbuddin Hekmatyar was part of these efforts to garner collective consensus.

He added any future strategy would be in line with the law, and without any intent to harm people.

This comes as protesters loyal to Abdullah have not allowed the Independent Election Commission to proceed with the vote recount in at least seven provinces.

Meanwhile, Dawood Sultanzoy, a senior member of the State Builder team led by President Ashraf Ghani, has asserted that the Stability and Partnership team has always strived to cause chaos and uproar. The State Builder’s proposed vice president, Amrullah Saleh, has charged in a social media post the Stability and Partnership with ethnic discrimination and prejudice.

Mohammad Mohaqiq, a senior figure in the Stability and Partnership team has criticized Saleh for such remarks.

Separately, the IEC chairperson, Hava Alam Nuristani, has urged the government to extend its support for the electoral commission in executing the recount process particularly in seven northern provinces.

Commenting on this, Yosuf Rasheed, head of the Transparent and Election Foundation of Afghanistan, said the politicians need to ensure that the situation does not slid towards deeper crisis.
