“Self-pleasure becoming an addiction among frustrated youth”

06/08/2016

HERAT CITY (SW): In the modern age of globalization, a number of experts believe ‘self-pleasure’ or masturbation among the frustrated youth is reaching a level of addiction in the country.

According to the analysts, besides the economic woes that further complicate the process of weddings, the youth are also finding it difficult to break away from the outdated traditions that are keeping them away from tying the knot. This combined with the peaking amount for dowries and an easy access to porn movies have provided the youth with an easy escape.

A number of young men in western Herat province affirmed that self-satisfaction has become a sort of addiction among them.

Masoud, a resident in Herat city told Salam Watandar that the main reason behind his addiction to it is rooted in the fact that marriage has become very expensive. Asadullah Tahiri, another resident in Herat, said that some of his friends are seriously addicted to it.

Ghulam Ali Jalis, a specialized urologist, said in this regard that this practice has led to health problems like premature ejaculation, depression, frailty, and weak memory.

Ali Ahmad Kawa, a university lecturer who teaches sociology at the Herat University, said that self-satisfaction could also cause domestic problems and affects marriage life leading to divorce.

He said that unfortunately, talking about such issue is considered a taboo in Afghanistan while in other countires such topics are discussed and even taught at schools to raise awareness about it.
