Lack of health centers in Kandahar leaves patients in troubles

KANDAHAR CITY (SW): Residents of Dand district in Kandahar have complained they are faced with acute shortage of health facilities.

Residents of Dand told Salam Watandar some health centers operating in the district are facing shortages of doctors and medicine which force them to rush patients to the main Mirwais Hotak Public Hospitl in the provincial capital Kandahar city. According to the Dand district residents, the public hospital in Kandahar city is overwhelmed with patients from all over the province.

Jamil Ahmad, a resident of Dand district, said despite the fact that the district is stable from security point of view, but the government is not paying attention towards the the people.

The residents of Dand district of the province have urged the Kabul government and the provincial authorities to build a well-equipped health center here so that patients from remote areas could be treated.  

Sardar Mohammad, another resident of the district, urged the government to develop a 24-hours health center with female doctors so that women can have health services as well.

Musa Jan Sultani, deputy director of provincial public health, has acknowledged the issue. He said 88 hospitals and health centers are providing health services in all over Kandahar out of which 6 such centers are located in Dand district of the province. “The government wants to develop a well-equipped health center in Dand district soon”, informed Sultani.

The provincial public health authorities also added that the issue of health centers in Dand district has been communicated to the Ministry of Public Health, and the MoPH has promised to increase the number of health centers in the Kandahar province.
