LASHKARGAH (SW): The Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) managed to reclaim restive Nawa district from the Taliban on Saturday almost over a year after it fell to the rebels.
Gen. Abdul Ghani, deputy commander of the Afghan National Army (ANA)’s 215-Maiwand Corps, told Salam Watandar that the security forces are marching ahead successfully. He said beyond the district center, the ANDSF have taken control of Loy Qalay, Mamoriat Aynak, Spina Gowata and Fazluddin square. The ANA deputy commander said that the allied forces’ air power is supporting the ANDSF in this offensive.
Gen. Ghani noted that the Taliban have placed landmines all over the place, and the security forces are busy carefully de-mining the areas. A well-placed source told Salam Watandar that up to 16 Taliban militants have been killed in this offensive so far. The Taliban have not commented on it yet.
Nawa is located at a distance of only 23 kilometers from the provincial capital Lashkargah.
