
SARI-E-PUL (SW) – The residents of Sar-e-Pul province have dedicated over 550, 000 sq. meters of private land for the sake of public schools in the province.
Abdul Ghafoor, head of the directorate of education, informed Salam Watandar that this land has a market value of some AFN 35 million. He said the land has been provided to the state for some 115 schools. He said up to 10 per cent schools in the province lack proper buildings. Work would start on these schools in line with the Citizens’ Charter Program soon, he promised.
He said building of proper schools would help the students come out of tents, and learn under a proper roof.
The provincial governor, Abdul Qadir Aashna, has hailed this generous move by the local population. He said the building of schools would help improve the level of literacy in the province. Members of the local provincial council has said this gesture should evolve into a culture in the country.
