TALUQAN (SW) – The followers of Salafi sect in Takhar are busy recruiting fighters for Daesh in the province, locals said.

In conversation with Salam Watandar, residents of Dasht-e-Qala district said the group has managed to enlist some youngsters in their ranks.

A local civil society activist Basheer Ahmad Bashaar said the group has set-up religious learning centers where the youngsters are encouraged to go to the Daesh bastions in Nangarahr for fighting. He said some 60 young men have already been sent from here to Nangarhar.

Another local resident Hamid said the youngsters joining the ranks of the Taliban are aged between 16 and 30. He said these youngsters are busy in training and might soon stage terrorist attacks. Hamid said two young relatives of him had joined the Daesh, and got killed in clashes with the security forces during the Eid holidays.

The local Salafi community is headed by Shaikh Tayab and Mawlawi Nabil, who are against the Taliban.

Commenting on this, Malik Tatar, a commander of the pro-government militia force along the Amu River areas, acknowledged that the Daesh and Jundullah terrorist groups are busy in recruiting fighters.

However, spokesman for the provincial police headquarters, Khalil Aser, discarded these reports. He said only the Taliban insurgents are active in Takhar province. It is worth noticing that the Daesh’s black flag was hoisted in Darqad district last year.
