KABUL (SW): Rumors about forced resignation of Rehmatullah Nabil, Head of the National Directorate of Security sparked heated debate in the Wolesi Jirga on Saturday.

A number of WJ members noted that a number of reports about ‘foreign element’ conspiring to replace Nabil were worrying. Many members of the house expressed their support for the Director NDS.

Nazeer Ahmadzai, Second Deputy Speaker of the house rejected such reports.

He said a delegation from the WJ would meet the President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani soon to clear the air. Few days back, reports emerged in the media indicating President’s displeasure with the performance of a number of ministers, and indicating a shuffle in the cabinet, including removal of Nabil.

Meanwhile, the WJ called Kabul’s interim mayor, deputy head of the Environment Protection Agency EPA and the Deputy Minister for Urbanization Affairs over the rising level of population in the capital.

Interim Mayor Abdul Ahad Wahidi told the house that a clean-up campaign has been launched in the city and the results would be evident in few days.

He asserted the Kabul Municipality has the staff of only 800 personnel to keep the city clean. Wahidi also highlighted the lack of funds and resources.

Abdul Wali Mudaqiq, the deputy head for the EPA said on the occasion that lack of coordination among various government organs were also contributing towards making the city dirtier.

He expressed optimism over some foreign organizations helping to curb the surging level of pollution in Kabul in future.

Amiruddin Salik, Deputy Minister at the MoUDA said in his remarks that stern measures have been emplaced to make sure new residential units comply with the housing laws.

Fauzia Kofi, a women member of the house however, expressed disappointment with the performance of these institutions to keep the capital clean and green.
