
SHEBERGHAN (SW) – Local officials in Shirin Tagab of Faryab have said a popular uprising against the Taliban has emerged in the district.
Zainullah Zaki, governor of Shirin Tagab district, told Salam Watandar that the locals have seized a number of check posts previously held by the Taliban, including bastion of the Taliban’s shadow district governor here.
According to Zainullah Zaki, many residents of the district have revolted against the Taliban's growing oppression of the people, and the latest snatching of five truckloads of aid sent by Turkmenistan for the needy people of the province.
In conversation with Salam Watandar, a number of residents said they have seized two Taliban bases along with a number of weapons and ammunition. They add that they are now trying to seize a large camp of the insurgents.
Local officials blamed the Taliban have fired several mortars to disperse members of the uprising force, injuring four people.
The Taliban have not yet commented.
