KBUL (SW) – A detailed plan for an increase in salaries and perks for the public sector teaches has been shared by the Ministry of Education with the government.

In an exclusive interview with Salam Watandar, Mirwais Balkhi, minister for the MoE, acknowledged the present pay scale and allowances are not sufficient to help the teachers make ends meet. He said the plan has also taken into account all other aspects to strengthen and support teachers.

He vowed to have the authority to finally lift the grades and ensure promotions for teachers after a gap of eight years.

In the meantime, Shamroz Khan Masjidi, spokesman for the Ministry of Finance, said a comprehensive strategy to lift the salaries of all public sector employees, including teaches, is under consideration. He added a joint committee of the Independent Civil Services Commission, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs is working on this strategy.

Public sector employees, particularly teachers, have long been complaining against lower salaries.
