KABUL (SW): A number of retired Afghan National Army (ANA) personnel held a protest demonstration in Kabul on Monday.
The protestors called upon the government to pay them their outstanding dues in terms of salaries and pension fund. They asserted that based on the directives of the President’s office, and in line with the decision of the cabinet, they should be paid two-year’ perks.
Najibullah Mujahid, representative of the former ANA personnel, said that the Ministry of Defence (MoD) is not following the directives of the President’s office and the National Security Council. He blamed the defence minister and the national security advisor for discriminating against them. Mujahid went on to say that all legal requirements are in place but still their salaries have not been released.
The protestors warned to intensify their actions if their demands are not met.
Meanwhile, Dawlat Waziri, spokesman for the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has rejected the allegations. He told Salam Watandar that the matter is under discussion among the stake-holders. Waziri promised that the MoD would do justice in this regard.
It is vital to note that last year the cabinet directed the MoD to pay outstanding dues to these MoD personnel in four year instalments, but this is the second time these officers and employees have taken to the street.
