KABUL (SW) – Mir Rehman Rehmani has been declared as speaker of the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) after voting in the house on Saturday.
Interim speaker of theWJ, Attaullah Dehqanpur, said at the start of the session that 247 members are present in the house for voting. Following the vote, Rehmani earned 123 votes while his rival candidate Kamal Nasir Osolo got 55 votes.
There was an uproar in the house over the matter of Rehmani not earning the simple legal majority of fifty per cent plus votes.
As many as 53 votes were declared invalidated while 13 of the votes were blank.
