Pusht Rod on the verge of fall to the Taliban

19/12/2018

FARAH TY (SW) – The governor of Pusht Rod district in Farah province has said only 18 out of the 207 security forces stationed in the district are showing up for the duty.

In conversation with Salam Watandar, Haji Ghausuddin, district governor, said the Taliban’s assaults on the check posts combined with lack of resources have made the security forces vulnerable here.

The district governor said many check posts have been moved to the city owing to security threats. He warned there would be no other option available than leaving the district to the Taliban if additional troops are not sent. Ghausuddin said the Taliban are hiding in nearby villages, but the security forces do not have sophisticated arms to counter them.

Due to its proximity to the Farah city, the fall of Pusht Rod would pose direct threat to the capital of Farah, he added.

In the meantime, Mohammad Naeem, chairman of the provincial council, mentioned large-scale operations have been conducted by the Afghan and foreign troops here, but still the security threats exist in the province. He noted lack of personnel and resources as major issues.

However, Muhibullah Muhib, spokesman for the provincial police headquarters, asserted that Pusht Rod is among the safest districts of the province. He added large number of security forces are stationed here to counter the rebels. He mentioned, in line with the new security plan, soon additional troops would be stationed in Pusht Rod.
