
KABUL (SW) – Protesters staged a demonstration in the capital Kabul on Monday against the arrest of Nezamuddin Qaisari, district police chief in Faryab, and vice president Abdul Rasheed Dostum’s return to country from Turkey.
This demonstration was part of the wider protests in a number of northern provinces entering second week. The agitators blamed the government for alleged ethnic discrimination, and warned to launch nationwide protests if their demands are not met.
Similar protests were staged in a number of cities in Takhar and Balkh provinces. The offices of a number of aid agencies and the Attorney General Office have been closed down in Taluqan city in this connection.
Gul Mohammad Erkeen, deputy chairman of the Junbish party’s central committee in Jawzjan province, told journalists in Mazar-e-Sharif that the protest demonstrations would spread to western and southern provinces as well.
It has been two weeks now since he supporters of Junbish party and the Afghanistan Salvation Alliance are protesting against the arrest of Qaisari and for the return of VP Dostum.
