
KABUL (SW) – The Council of Tribes in Afghanistan on Wednesday expressed doubts over prospects of fair and just presidential polls in September.
Ghazni Nawaz Tanay, head of the CTA, told a moot in this connection that under the National Unity Government, there are no prospects for fair and just presidential polls in the country. In a statement, the council said the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) elections were marred with rigging and irregularities, and same is expected in the presidential polls.
Meanwhile, Sediq Sediqui, spokesman for the President, has clarified holding fair and just elections remains a top priority for the government. He added President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has issued a decree barring government employees from influencing the polls.
Prior to this, a number of presidential candidates have blamed President Ghani for interfering the polls.
