KABUL (SW) – The Office of Presidential Affairs announced on Tuesday that the cabinet decision to declare assets has not been taken seriously by a large number of officials.

Three weeks after the cabinet decided to register the assets of high-ranking government officials, including members of the parliament, the OPA said that according to the decision, high-ranking government officials, including members of the parliament, were required to register their assets with the General Directorate of Assets Registry by the 27 of July.

Presidential spokesman, Sediq Seddiqi told a news conference that the cabinet had decided at this week's meeting to register assets of all cabinet members, governors, members of the parliament and senior government officials in the next three weeks.

The Office of Presidential Affairs has given senior government officials a week’s time to register their assets.

Earlier, the presidential spokesman said that if the process was not completed, the Ministry of Finance would be instructed to cut the salaries of employees who did not register their assets.

The OPA said that after the deadline, if high-ranking government employees do not register their assets, their names would be exposed in the public.
