26/04/2018

GHAZNI (SW): Dozens of protestors in Ghazni who demanded the election to be held in different zones, continued to hold their sit-in tents protest today in front of the IEC’s provincial headquarters, and have prevented the IEC’s vehicle to enter or exit the building.

The protesters announced that they have locked the office of the IEC and have disallowed the staff to enter the office.

The protestors warned that if their demands are not met, they will shut down all the voters’ registration centers and “National Identity Card -NIC” issuing centers in Ghazni province in the coming days and set up a sit-in protest tent in front of the provincial building.

Extension of the timeframe for the issuance of NIC and ‘not sticking’ the stamp on the NIC are the two other demands of the protestors.

Meanwhile, Nazir Hussain Nabizada, head of IEC’s provincial headquarter in Ghazni told Salam Watandar that the work of the IEC has been continuing as usual, however, if the protesters continue their protest in front of the IEC office, the voters’ registration will get affected and slowed down.

Nabizada informed that accepting the demands of the protestors are beyond the power of IEC headquarters.

According to the residents of Ghazni, with the voters’ registration in Ghazni, the activities of Taliban have also increased in the province which has discouraged the residents to take part in the election process.
