MAIMANA (SW) – Supporters of the Junbish party on Wednesday closed down regional offices of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) in Faryab and Sar-i-Pul provinces.
The protest demonstrations against the arrest of Nezamuddin Qaisar, a local militia commander associated with Vice President Abdul Rasheed Dostum, have entered ninth day. Demanding release of Qaisari and return of the VP to the country, the agitators closed down the IEC offices in Sar-i-Pul and Faryab provinces.
The protesters have warned to close down all public offices if their demands are not met.
Mohammad Noor Rehmani, chairman of the Sar-i-Pul provincial council, has lamented that the government has so far failed to pacify the angry protesters. He said that is why the protest drive has extended to other provinces.
Salam Watandar wished to have the views of the IEC on this matter, but to no avail.
