KABUL (SW) – The reports about formation of a new working group to push peace process in Afghanistan has received different reactions.
Lateef Nazari, professor at the Kabul University, feared such a ‘parallel’ mechanism in the presence of the High Peace Council would only cause further complications instead of helping improve the situation. He added this new working group undermines the HPC.
However, Firdaus Kawosh, an expert on political affairs, expressed optimism the new working group proposed by the U.S. demonstrates the growing focus and pressure by Washington aimed at bringing the Taliban to the negotiation table. He stressed there is no conflict or path crossing between this proposed working group and the HPC.
The HPC has also hailed the idea of such a working group towards bring the warring sides to the negotiation table.
Meanwhile, Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi, speaker of the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) has stressed the HPC leadership would be summoned by the parliament soon to take a pulse of the state of affairs. This comes as many parliamentarians underlined the need to keep the masses informed about developments on this front.
