KABUL (SW): A group of civil society organizations of Thursday criticized the recently appointed electoral commissions.
Addressing a press conference in this regard, Nasrullah Falak, member of the political parties, said that the National Unity Government (NUG) is ‘fooling’ the public by appointing so called impartial candidates on the posts in the Independent Election Commission (IEC) and the Independent Election Complaint Commission (IECC). Falak charged that the newly appointed commissioners are ‘worst’ than the previous ones.
He questioned the professionalism and impartiality of the electoral commissioners.
Meanwhile, another set of independent election observers welcomed the appointment of new commissioners. Faheem Siddiqui, head of the New Line civil society group, while welcoming the appointment of the new commissioners, stressed upon them to prove their worth by learning lessons from the previous elections.
President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani issued the ultimate list of commissioners for the electoral commissions on Tuesday. This came after weeks of negotiating with political figures and civil society activists.
