QALA-I-NAU (SW): President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on Sunday launched work on Qaisar – Laman highway, part of the Ring Road, in Badghes province which would cost $ 85 million.
Addressing local elders and officials on the occasion, the President said this mega project would turn Badghes into a major transit route in the country. He promised a pioneering rail line linking the Central Asia via Badghes with Herat province would be laid in two years’ time.
In his speech, the President reiterated the government’s resolve to efficiently manage the country’s water resources. He said development of dams would help secure up to 26 billion cubic of water.
He added the provincial capital Qala-i-Nau would be provided with solar and wind energy, and water supply would be ensured. Ghani expressed concerns over the security situation in Badghes, and said the security forces would adopt an offensive posture next year that would help improve security nationwide.
