GHOR (SW): Tens of security guards of the Pozlech Dam in Ghor province have staged protest demonstration in front of the provincial administration against non-payment of salaries.
The protesters claimed they have not been paid for the past six months, and food ration, firewood for winter and other resources have also been not provided. Asadullah and Shamsul Haq, two such protesters, said they have shared their concerns with the provincial government and the private contractor of the Pozlech Dam, but no one has resolved their issues. They asserted that change of a number of contractors have led to the crisis.
The protesting security guards said the current contractor Jawed Rateb Company has told them their salaries should be paid by the first contactor the Electro Company of Russia. Ezatullah Ratib, head of the Rateb Company, told Salam Watandar that the issue has been shared with the Electro Company of Russia as well as the Ministry of Water and Power.
Abdul Hai Khatibi, spokesman for the provincial governor, said that the prevailing issues have also hindered development work at the Pozlech Dam. He said if the current contractor failed to address the issues, the mater would be referred to the higher authorities.
The Russian firm started work on this Dam located on the outskirts of Feroz Koh city with a project worth some $ 15 million four years ago. However, sub-contracting of this project has hindered completion of it so far.
