KABUL (SW): President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani met the visiting U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson before leaving for India for an official visit.
Secretary Tillerson and President Ghani met in Kabul on October 23 and together reaffirmed the U.S.-Afghan commitment to achieving peace, stability, and long-term prosperity in Afghanistan, the U.S. Embassy noted in an official communiqué. “I am accountable to my people, and in line with their needs we would take joint measures for ensuring security and success of the new U.S. strategy”, Ghani was quoted as saying during the meeting by a statement issued from Arg (Presidential palace).
Dawa Khan Menapal, deputy to spokesperson for President told Salam Watandar that the President will meet Indian officials on this trip. Bilateral relations between Kabul and New Delhi, trade, and fighting terrorism are the main topics of discussion.
According to Menapal, President Ghani will talk to students in a university in India during this trip and recent events in the region will be the topic of his speech.
Mr. Ghani will visit India on the same day when U.S. Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson’s arrives in New Delhi where he is expected to talk about the U.S. new strategy for Afghanistan and South Asia with Indian officials in New Delhi.
