KABUL (SW): On the occasion of the country's 97th Independence Day, The Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has stressed upon unity in ranks, and strong will to beat the terrorists.
Flanked by the ministers and other high ranking officials, Ghani placed a floral wreath at the Menar-i-Istiqlal (Independence Minaret) in Kabul to mark the day. Later, in his speech, the President lauded the sacrifices paid by the founding fathers of the country, and the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) for defending the motherland.
Lauding the abilities of the ANSF, Ghani said it is because of the resolve of these forces that Afghanistan is resisting the “imposed war”. He made it clear that the raging conflict in the country is not due to internal reasons but is actually an imposed war. The President also touched upon issues related to the economy, legal system and good governance.
Let's all work for peace and prosperity to pay homage to the sacrifices of our forefathers”, Ghani said.
This comes at a time when President Ghani's power-sharing CEO Abdullah is at odds with him over the mechanism of the National Unity Government. Last evening however, the two met in person but no details of the meeting were shared with the press. A communiqué from the Arg (Presidential Palace) noted that the meeting was held in friendly atmosphere.
