MAIMANA (SW): A policewoman was shot dead in police district (PD) 4 of Maimana city on Wednesday night.
Security officials in Faryab said the policewoman was a resident of Charmagar Khana in the Maimana city. She was a police sergeant in the security ring under the provincial police command.
A security source on conditions of anonymity told Salam Watandar that the 40 year old policewoman named “Nooria” was killed by her son-in-law. The source called the killing as a family feud and added the culprit joined Taliban ranks after the incident.
Taliban have acknowledge the killing of the policewoman by one of their men. Gen. Mohammad Nader, head of criminal directorate at the provincial police headquarters, confirmed the incident, but did not provide further details.
Said Hafizullah Fitrat, provincial chapter of Human Rights Commission, said that the son-in-law of the victim is a cadet in the police academy. He urged the provincial police headquarter to apprehend the culprit.
Based on reports of provincial chapter of Human Rights Commission at least 8 women are killed since March, out of which 4 are honor killings.
