KABUL (SW) – A credible source has told Salam Watandar the venue of peace talks with the Taliban is set to be moved from Qatar to Germany.
This is likely to be finalized during the Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani’s trip to Berlin on Thursday.
Sibghatullah Ahmadi, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told Salam Watandar that Rabbani would discuss bilateral matters and the peace process with the German officials during this trip.
The Germany Embassy in Kabul said in a statement bilateral relations, the intra-Afghan dialogue and the upcoming presidential elections will be on the agenda of the meetings.
Meanwhile, a number of political analysts believe the relocation of the peace talks to Germany would indeed prove helpful considering the positive background of this European country.
One such analyst, Mohammad Akram Aarifi, said Germany can also serve as guarantor for the peace agreement between the U.S. and the Taliban. He said Germany can also prove handy for the execution of the proposed peace agreement.
A while ago, Markus Potzel, German Envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan, said he would attend the seventh round of talks between the U.S. and the Taliban on the request of Washington.
