Peace not possible via negotiations only: President Ghani

26/09/2015

KABUL(SW): President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has said peace cannot be brought only via negotiations outside the country. He said this while felicitating prominent figures and elders of the Greater Kandahar, Greater Paktya and Greater Mashriqi regions on the occasion of Eid-Al-Adha at the Arg (Presidential Palace). The President underscored the important role of elders and religious scholars in bringing the government and people closer, and urged them to fundamentally review their local problems and come up with a clear plan for solving them. President Ghani said that peace is our basic demand and we shall get to our demand with the help of people. He added that our peace efforts have been successful on the regional and global level since we have attained their conviction and trust.

Mohammad Ashraf Ghani said that for fourteen years we have been in an undeclared war with Pakistan and we want to end this war with your help as peace will not come only through foreign negotiations. A day earlier, Ghani met with the leadership of the Security Sector and felicitated them on Eid-ul-Adha. President Ghani reiterated that promotion of the defense and security personnel is based on bravery and patriotism, not personal connections. The President said that the international community has given us clear commitments and that all the needs of security and defence forces will be fundamentally met. The meeting was attended by Minister of Interior Affairs Noor-ul-Haq Olumi, Acting Minister of National Defense Mohammad Masoum Stanekzai, Director General of NDS Rahmatullah Nabil, and a number of other senior personnel from the defense and security sector.
