Peace and Moderation team survives a potential collapse

KABUL (SW) – A source close to presidential candidate Muhammad Haneef Atmar has said his Peace and Moderation team has survived collapse amid alleged internal differences.

According to the source, the dispute has now subsided and the team will soon officially begin campaign for the presidential polls. Without sharing details about the resolution of differences between Mohammad Haneef Atmar and Atta Mohammad Noor, the sources said that there is currently a "positive reconciliation" between the two.

Another source close to the Peace and Moderation campaign, however, said that the compromise was due to the flexibility shown by Noor. The source said an agreement is reached among the team members to include his picture on the official campaign posters along with Atmar and his proposed deputies Yonus Qanoni and Mohammad Mohaqiq.

Qadar Shah, a spokesman for the Peace and Moderation team, said in a statement that media reports about an internal divide in this team were propaganda by rival teams and that there was no dispute.

Earlier, reports had been circulating that Atmar and a branch of the Jamiat party developed differences about the candidate’s televised interview and insisting to preserve the presidential system. Initially, a number of Jamiat party members joined the Peace and Moderation team for establishment of a government with a prime minister, but Atmar warned to expel this group while stressing to preserve the presidential system.
