KUNDUZ CITY (SW): Pamir I, government’s military operation has displaced at least 2 thousand families from 8 villages in the northern cities of Kunduz province.

Residents of northern cities of Kunduz have told Salam Watandar the Pamir I operation has not wiped out even one single village from control of the Taliban yet. The residents complained about their living conditions and said we have not received any help from government.

Qandi Gul, a resident of Alchin, said we are living under a tent since the past ten days.

Abdul Ahad, another Alchin resident, said we left everything behind and came to the city.

Amar-u-Din, head of provincial council, said the government has launched several military operations on villages in the northern cities of Kunduz. He further added these operations have failed in swiping the Taliban insurgents except displacing the locals.

The officials at the provincial Directorate of Refugees and Repatriations (DoRR), said since the launch of Pamir I military operation 2 thousand families have been displaced from Alchin, Hazrat Sultan, Taloka, Khawaja Paak, Panjshiri Qishlaq, Atmanzai and Mullah Sardar villages.

Mohammad Yusuf Khodam, director of emergency office at the provincial DoRR, said the residents of Panjshiri Qislaq, Khawaja Paak and Atanzai villages have left their homes completely and moved to Qala Zaal and Gul Tapa areas of the province. “Most of these village residents have moved to areas where it is under the Taliban control which makes relief aid and help difficult to reach these displaced families”, informed Khodam.

But, security officials in Kunduz have said the Taliban are using abandoned homes as cover and they have paved ways with landmines making the Pamir I operation cumbersome.

Mahfooz-u-llah Akbari, spokesman for the Northwestern zone police, informed that as a result of this operation 3 villages are wipe out of the Taliban and demining is underway.

A source in the provincial general public hospital have said in first 8 days of Pamir I operation at least 15 dead and 93 injured persons including children and women were brought to the hospital. According to the source most of the casualties are civilians.
