TALUQAN (SW): The provincial government in Takhar has said no action would be taken against an outspoken religious leader who once called women as ‘inferior species”.
“Women are the most inferior species”, Maulvi Abdul Samad, head of the provincial Ulema Council said last month. His words caused uproar in the social media across the country with people demanding stern action against him. Local authorities however, have dubbed Maulvi Abdul Samad’s words as ‘slip of tongue’.
Sunatullah Timor, provincial governor’s spokesperson has said that head of the provincial Ulema Council of Takhar has admitted the ‘slip of tongue’ and has promised not to repeat such words.
Dejected with this, Awizha Awarzhalan, women rights activist in the province told Salam Watandar that such words by clergy men led to increases violence against women. She has demanded authorities to take legal actions against Abdul Samad.
Kubra Rezayi, spokesperson for the Ministry of Women Affairs, has also expressed concerns over the way provincial government has provided liberty to the accused individual. She stressed that legal action against Abdul Samad will set an example for others not to disrespect women in the future.
Maulvi Abdul Samad is known for his notorious preaching against women in the past as well as he had previously declared support for Daesh.
