SHEBERGHAN (SW): Lack of female doctors in Jawzjan province has put the lives of many women and girls in danger.
A number of patients from the far away districts Mangajeck and Qoshti told Salam Watandar that they have to travel for miles for basic health services in the province. One of the patients named Khadeja said that women and girls in particular are facing troubles due to the dearth of female physicians. Pregnant women have to undergo unbearable circumstances to give birth to their child, she said adding that often women die in this process due to lack of healthcare.
Noorya, another woman who is a widow said that she cannot leave her home to visit a doctor at a distance.
Dr. Faridon Habibi, director health in Jawzjan has acknowledged the issue while promising to strive for change. He noted that insecurity and poor infrastructure are also hindering delivery of health services to women across the province.
As per reports there is no single women doctor available in Jawzjan’s Qosh Tapa, Qarqeen, Khanqa, Mardyan, Manga Jeek, Khamab, Khwaja Do Koh and Faiz Abad districts.
Salam Watandar published a similar report last month about that fact that there is only one female doctor for the whole of Paktia province.
