LASHKARGAH (SW): The provincial capital of Helmand province Lashkargah has a population of around 1.5 million, but the city does not have a single public toilet where the dwellers can answer the call of nature.
City dwellers and those visiting the provincial capital for different purposes from the districts have long been complaining about this issue. Hundreds of people visit Lashkargah from the districts on daily basis, and face troubles to answer the call of nature.
A number of residents told Salam Watandar there is no single public toilet available in the city. They pronounced the public toilets as one of the essential needs of the people, and urged the Lashkargah Municipality to take urgent steps towards developing it.
Community members in the Lashkargah Municipality allege that no attention has been paid towards addressing this problem while formulating master plan for the city in the past. Nazeer Barak and Abdul Rasheed, two such members, informed that no single public toilet has been development for male or female dwellers.
Meanwhile, Matiullah Baheer, mayor for the city, said in this regard that the problem would be resolved soon. He said development work has started on at least 10 public toilets at different locations. He added different locations have been selected for male and female public toilets. The mayor went on to say more public toilets would also be developed with the annual development budgets.
