CHIGHCHIRAN (SW): Human Rights (HR) activists have raised concerns over the fact that there are no women prosecutor or judge in Ghor province.
According to the HR activists, court dockets are full of women’s cases as there are no female prosecutors or judges in the province.
Sadiqa Naseri, a women’s activist, told Salam Watandar that lack of women’s presence in the judiciary has resulted in women’s rights infringement. “Women’s cases are not properly handled without the presence of female prosecutors and judges”, added Naseri.
Majabin Rasa, another activist, has urged the government to appointed female members in the judiciary of the province. The two activists told Salam Watandar that Masooma Anwari, provincial director of women’s affairs, also acknowledges the problem of having no female employees in the Ghor’s judiciary, but has said that women have not complained about the issue. According to the provincial director of women’s affairs, the societal norms make it difficult for women to open up to male prosecutors and judges in their matters.
Abdul Rauf Fayiq, chief judge at the provincial appeal court, expressed to Salam Watandar that despite the fact that the court does not have female prosecutors, however, the male prosecutors take the cases seriously to defend the women. He urged females who have legal qualifications to apply for positions in the judiciary.
