MAIMANA (SW) – Not a single school is open in nine districts of Faryab province, however, the salaries for teachers continue to be collected.
Sibghatullah Sailab, deputy chairman for the provincial council, informed Salam Watandar all public schools are closed down in Kohistan, Garzivaan, Balcharagh, Almaar, Dawlat Abad, Sheren Tagab, Khwaja Sabz Posh and Pashtunkot districts, but salaries for teachers continued to be collected. He blamed ragging insecurity as the main reason for the closure of the schools.
Commenting on this, Mirwais Dawoodzay, governor of Dawlat Abad district, said schools in the district center are open, but students are not attending classes due to fear of terrorist attacks.
In Ghormach, Syed Dawood, the district governor, acknowledged children are not showing up for studies due to lack of professional teachers.
However, the deputy head at the directorate of education, Mohammad Yaseen Arsalan, clarified only nine public schools in five restive districts are closed while the rest are open.
Some 10 districts in the province are under threat from the Taliban rebels while all villages except the district centers are in their control. Districts center of Balchirag and Ghormach are also under the rebels’ control where public schools are closed.
