KABUL (SW): The U.S. administration officials have recently said that President Donald Trump’s new strategy for Afghanistan has included an increase of 3 to 5 thousand U.S. troops and the possibility of cutting off military aid to Pakistan.
According to the analysts, increased pressure and discontinuity of U.S. military aid to Pakistan will help to end the war in Afghanistan, and an increase in the number of U.S. troops will disrupt the Taliban and their supporters.
The analysts have said that increase in U.S. troops assures terrorist groups that the United States will not leave Afghanistan soon, therefore, compelling the terrorist groups to join the peace process.
Javed Kohistani, a military expert, told Salam Watandar that the surge of U.S. troops in Afghanistan will cause Taliban’s disappointment, and this option will pave the way for peace talks.
According to Kohistani, cutting off Washington's aid to Islamabad will put Pakistan's government under the pressure of public opinion and make the Pakistan government stop supporting the terrorist groups.
Kabul Khan Tadbir, another military analyst, believes that the pressure on Pakistan and the Taliban will make the group join the peace process. But, he commented on the surge of U.S. troops in Afghanistan that it is better for the U.S. government to equip Afghan security forces instead of increasing U.S. footprint in Afghanistan.
A new military strategy for Afghanistan is scheduled to be officially announced by U.S. President Donald Trump within hours.
