NDS chief survives vote of confidence

25/04/2018

KABUL (SW): Mohammad Masoum Stanikzai, head of the National Directorate of Security (NDS) on Wednesday survived the vote of confidence in the Wolesi Jirga (lower house).

This came as a number of members pronounced the summoning of NDS chief as a violation of the Constitution.

Humayon Humayon, first deputy speaker of the WJ, criticized the NDS chief for failing to curb ragging terrorist attacks, rise in fatalities among security forces and allegedly politicising the security sector. However, Nadir Khan Katawazi, a member of the house, claimed the NDS chief has been summoned to the house due to personal enmity and in violation of the Constitution.

Announcing results of the voting, Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi, speaker of the house, said the simple majority of fifty percent plus members did not vote against the NDS chief, hence Stanikzai survived the vote of confidence. He said 66 members casted votes out of which 44 were not acceptable, 19 approved, two disapproved and one was blank.
