JALALABAD (SW) – The Pakistani rupees remain in circulation in a number of southern and eastern provinces despite repeated attempts to ban it.
Just recently, the provincial administration in Nangarhar has launched a new campaign against the use of rupees in domestic trade here. The locals have welcomed the move, but they want the government to properly manage the drive in a bid to effectively put an end to trade in rupees as well as ensuring no financial exploitation takes place in terms of the exchange rate.
Taj Mohammad Tamkeen, financial advisor at the Da Afghanistan Bank, said in this regard that the restrictions on domestic trade in foreign currencies help improve the value of the national currency. He added this eventually helps improve domestic economy.
The provincial council chairman, Ahmad Ali Hazrat, has stressed this move should be executed in a practical and comprehensive way.
Meanwhile, Attaullah Khogyani, spokesman for the provincial governor, has stressed the government is fully committed to end domestic trade in rupees in the province.
