KABUL (SW): Academic year for schools began with the start of new Lunar year on Thursday here.

Sarwar Danish, second Vice President, on the occasion said more than 48 per cent of schools do not have buildings in the country. The 2nd VP wants the Ministry of Education to strive for hiring experienced and skilled educators.

According to Sarwar Danish, the government will not hesitate from any efforts to re-open schools in the insecure areas of the country. He believed weakness of the education sector and lack of equipment are main reasons behind the poor education system of the country.

Speaking on the occasion, Assadullah Hanif, Minister of Education, said more than 9.2 million students are enrolled in schools all over the country out of which 39 per cent are female students. “Lack of access to schools, shortage of school buildings, lack of female educators and schools remaining closed in the insecure areas of the country are the main challenges for the Ministry”, informed Hanif.

According to the Ministry of Education, 141 new schools will be built this year.
