KABUL (SW) – The Ministry of Finance has dedicated funds worth AFN 1 billion available for holding forthcoming elections in the country, an official said on Wednesday.
Shamroz Khan Masjidi, spokesman for the MoF, told Salam Watandar the international community and donor agencies have pledged to support the election process, however, in case of non-availability of funds from elsewhere, the MoF would be in position to fund the polls.
The MoF official said the electoral commission has so far not presented its draft budget proposal for the elections.
When contacted, Zabehullah Sadat, deputy spokesman for the Independent Election Commission, told SW the international community and donors have not back-tracked from their pledges of supporting the process. He said work in underway on the draft budget in consultation with the donors.
This comes amid media reports about the international donors not willing to fund the polls over the ambiguities surrounding it.
