BADGHES (SW) – The deputy chairman of Badghes provincial council said on Saturday the Taliban overran Ab Kamari district in the province after coordinated attacks from multiple directions.
Abdullah Afzali, deputy chairman of the provincial council, has said the insurgents torched the district administrative compound, police headquarters and military compound here after extorting all arms and ammunition from here.
Separately, the chairman of the provincial council, Abdul Aziz Baig, has said at least 50 security forces got injured and killed in clashes in Bala Murghab. He said additional troops have reached the area, and the insurgents have been forced to flee.
Meanwhile, Abdul Ghafoor Malakzai, provincial governor, has claimed the additional forces forced the rebels to retreat. Rejecting reports about the fall of Ab Kamari, he only confirmed the killing of two soldiers in Bala Murghab.
