MoD’s high-ranking officials to declare assets

KABUL (SW): In the ongoing anti-graft drive, the Ministry of Defense (MoD) on Sunday vowed to make the assets of its officers public.

Mohammad Masoom Stanekzai, the acting Defense Minister, urged all staffers of the MoD to register their properties and other assets. He urged upon them to counter corruption at the MoD on every level.

The acting minister emphasized to seriously follow up high-ranking officials’ property registration.

He added that this process should be practical and not symbolic.

“We want to prove and make sure that this process goes smoothly and transparently since people believe that high-ranking officials have access to resources hence they have to register and make their assets public”, he noted.

Qadam Shah Shaheed, Chief of the Army Staff, speaking at the occasion, informed of establishing a transparent committee for assessing the registration process.

He emphasized that those who turned out to be corrupt would be dealt with accordingly.

“We are all obliged to consider countering corruption as our priority since the Afghan National Army (ANA) is a noble institution and we have to preserve it as such”, he added.

Sayed Hussain Fakhri, Head of Counter-Corruption Office, said that registering properties of high-ranking officials was not that easy in the past but currently many of the high ranking officials have registered their properties.

Based on the Constitution, government officials should register their properties once before joining the service and then at the end of their service.
