KABUL (SW): The Masharano Jirga (upper house of the parliament) on Sunday grilled the government for not meeting its promises about holding provincial council and Wolesi Jirga (lower house) elections.
Muhammad Alam Ezidyar, Deputy Speaker of the house urged the government to hold the elections without any further delay. He said the house demands the government to wrap-up the reforms process.
Gul Ahmad Azmi, another member of the house said on the occasion that delaying election undermine democracy and proved the promises rulers made empty.
Gul Mohammad Rasuli, another member said that it was important for the government to revive its trust in the eyes of the international community by holding elections without further delay.
Farida Kochi, a female member of the WJ noted that holding elections under circumstances when a number of districts across the country are facing armed insurgency would be a daunting task. She feared many people would lose their right to vote due to insecurity.
