SAR-I-PUL (SW): The Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) managed to reclaim Mirza Olang valley in Sar-i-Pul province from the militants, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
Provincial authorities informed Salam Watandar the ground forces backed by air power targeted the Taliban militants’ hideouts in this valley located in the Sayad district, and managed to reclaim it late night from the militants.
Nasratullah Jamshedi, spokesman for the Afghan National Army (ANA)’s 209-Shaheen Corps, informed that up to 50 Taliban militants including a number of their top commanders have been killed and more than 20 wounded in this offensive. He did not mention the death toll of the ANDSF. He pronounced Mirza Olang valley as a strategically key location for the security of the whole province.
The provincial government has stated that the militants torched a number of homes before fleeing. It is worth noticing the militants stormed Mirza Olang on August 05, and they were later joined by Daesh militants to cause havoc here.
