KABUL (SW): Farida Momand, Minister for Higher Education told the Masharano Jirga (upper house) on Sunday that 134 teachers in various public universities would soon retire in line with the new decree.
The Minister told the house that she has shared the problems faced by the academic fraternity and President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has assured to resolve them. She added that soon the President would have meeting with the teachers from the university.
She mentioned that the new law in this regard has been formulated in consultation with the teachers with only few changes have been brought in regard to the retirement age of 65 and some other matters.
Farida Momand told the house that exams on only three faculties were left while the rest of the faculties have already conducted their exams.
The Minister for Higher Education discarded the rumors that those teachers who have not attained promotions in the past six years would be sacked and some 700 teachers would be forcefully retied.
Farida Momand vowed that the government would ensure capacity building skills for the teachers at the universities.
She also promised to hold transparent Kankor Exams (university entrance exams) this year.
In the meantime, Mohammad Ameer, Director Private Universities at the MoHE, briefed the house about efforts underway to streamline and lift the state of private sector.
