Militants kidnap 12 men in Maidan Wardak

MAIDAN CITY (SW): Local officials in central Maidan Wardak province have said that the militants have kidnapped 12 residents of Shirtoghi and Safar Kheyl villages in the Daimirdad district.

They have said that a number of tribal elders were also among those have been kidnapped. Abdul Rahman Mangal, spokesman for the governor in Maidan Wardak province told Salam Watandar that efforts are underway to release them.

He claimed that the provincial government has managed to release 6 out of 12 kidnapped men so far. He added that they have preferred talks over military operation for the release of the kidnapped men.

Mangal noted that all the remaining kidnapped men are alive and well. A source close to the police chief in the province, who did not wish to be named in the report, told Salam Watandar that the Taliban have kidnapped these men over charges of cooperating with the government. He said that the Taliban have shifted these men to the areas under their control in the Daimirdad district.

Taliban however, have not commented on the incident so far.
