PAKTIA (SW): Nursing wage range in the eastern province of Paktia has caused huge problem for citizens in the province. Majority of the graduated nurses and midwives do not wish to work in outskirts of the city due to wage ranging between rural and urban areas.

Frishta, a nursing gradate from Paktia, said that when one earns more money in the city, she naturally prefers to work there rather than the rural areas. She further stated that compared to the rural areas, one can find better job opportunity in urban areas. Frishta noted that unlike a nurse who earns $250 in rural area, nurses in the city can easily make $500 on monthly basis.

Acknowledging this very fact, Dr. Nazdana, the former head of public health department in the province, stated that most graduated nurses and midwives do not will going to rural areas for service.

Sher Mohammad Naqashbandi, the head for public health department in the province, however stated that there is no wage ranging in the province. He noted that some international NGOs hire nurses and pay them bonuses.

As many as 65 female nurses are working in Patika province for the time being.
