PUL-E-ALAM(SW):Presdient Mohammad Ashraf Ghani visited Logar province and told locals that the contract for copper mining at the Mes Aynak with the Chinese firm would be reviewed.
The President accompanied by a number of cabinet members visited the province on Friday to assess security situation, good governance and people’s challenges.
Ghani told the residents that he has spoken over Mes Ayanak with the government of China and the contract would soon be fully reviewed.
He also said that once the contract is reviewed then the extraction would begin.
He added that the problems about security situation, existence of monuments and landmines near the mining site which were hindering the progress have been solved.
After speaking to government officials, heads of provincial security and people’s representatives, he ordered security forces to arrest those who have usurped government lands in the province.
Mawlawi Asadullah Hanif, one of the residents in Logar, speaking on behalf of religious scholars and elders, declared his supports for Government of National Unity, asking for establishment of religious councils in all districts in the province, which would be monitored by the governor.
Anita Halmi, a woman from Logar, said that girls’ schools were closed in most of the districts. She added that the women were facing huge economic challenges. She asked the President to develop a plan for economic progress for women in Logar.
The President’s visit comes at a time when security situation has deteriorated and military operations are under way against the militants in a number of areas in the province.
