
KABUL (SW): Authorities at the Ministry of Interior (MoI) have said that at least 1858 traffic incidents have occurred on the highways across the country in the past nine months.
Abdul Latif Khairkhwa, head of accident department at directorate of traffic at the MoI has said these accidents have claimed 923 lives and has left 2219 persons injured.
“Poor quality of roads, over loaded vehicles and reckless driving are the main cause of accidents”. Khairkhwa said.
A number of passengers complain that damaged roads, lack of traffic signs and reckless driving by often addicted drivers have put the lives of passengers at risk.
Recently, a passenger bus collided with an oil truck on Herat-Farah highway claiming 14 lives. Another 4 people died and 36 got injured in a similar accident a day earlier in Nimroz.
